UpdateOver the past two months the SCA has worked with Forestry and Parks at the City of Ottawa to address longstanding maintenance issues at the Orchard Park.
In April the Orchard Park was assessed by a Forestry Inspector and over 30 trees were deemed hazardous and marked for removal. Trees have been removed from the stand of large poplars at the top of the hill, some of which had fallen during the recent windstorm, as well as as from the naturalized pathway. Heritage apple trees have been trimmed up to facilitate future maintenance and the brush underneath each is being cleared. All major debris has been removed from the park.
The wooden fence damaged by the fallen tree along Kilspindie has been reported to the City for repair.
Help us work with the City to keep the Orchard Park well-maintained, along with the other parks in the Stonebridge community, by calling in your concerns to 3-1-1 and letting us know at parks@stonebridgeca.com.”
A few before/after photos would probably make a big impact, I can pass a few before photos if you think it’s something we can support on the Facebook post.
New Announcement:The City of Ottawa is preparing the design for the widening of Strandherd Drive to 4 lanes between Jockvale and Maravista. The works will include a grade separation (overpass) of the VIA rail line. To facilitate the construction of the overpass a detour will be constructed between Borrisokane/Tartan and Dealership/Kennevale. The works will also include improvements to cycling and pedestrian facilities between Jockvale and Greenbank along with renewal of the roadway asphalt (overlay). Construction is expected to begin in early spring 2019 and extend into 2022.
You are invited to attend a Public Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting on May 8, 2018 at 7PM in Room 202 of the Walter Baker Centre, 100 Malvern Drive where you will have an opportunity to meet the Design Team and view a brief presentation, which will be followed by a general question-and-answer session.
SPRING IS IN THE AIR AND THE STONEBRIDGE ‘JUST FOR FUN’ SOCCER
PROGRAM IS BACK AGAIN THIS YEAR!
We are very excited to hold this program again this year, a program
that offers a special opportunity for kids to share six weeks of
soccer-related fun with other kids in the community. As always we will
hand out freezies for the kids at the end of each session, and will
hold a pizza party after our last session on June 21st.
IN ORDER TO RUN THE PROGRAM WE REQUIRE 25-30 COACHING
VOLUNTEERS.
We invite parents and student volunteers to join us, no experience is
required! We will open online player registration once we’ve secured
enough coaches to run the program, so please let us know if you can
help out as a coach.
