MATTAMY STATEMENT RELEASE: A message from Kevin O’Shea of Mattamy

New Announcement: IMPORTANT NOTICE
MATTAMY STATEMENT RELEASE: A message from Kevin O’Shea of Mattamy Homes, Ottawa Division President:

Mattamy Homes Update on Stonebridge Community:

Thank you everyone for your candid feedback at the Public Information Session last month. It’s clear to us many of you have questions and concerns about the proposed development and planning process. We at Mattamy are committed to developing thoughtful, inspired communities and are confident that we can ensure the Stonebridge community remains a great place to live.

We believe the best way to move forward is to withdraw our rezoning and plan of subdivision applications at this time. This will allow the proposed Working Group (Stonebridge residents, Councillors, City staff and Mattamy) to focus on working together to shape the future of Stonebridge without the distraction of the planning application process and timeline.

In the spirit of cooperation, we have collaborated with City of Ottawa Municipal Councillors and Officials who were in agreement with this approach as well as Jay McLean at the Stonebridge Community Association. We are all confident that this is the best approach and are looking forward to an open and productive exchange of ideas that can contribute to the process.

SAVE STONEBRIDGE UPDATE:

New Announcement: IMPORTANT NOTICE
SAVE STONEBRIDGE UPDATE: The SCA received a message last night from Councillor Harder for distribution to the Stonebridge community.

“Jay, thank you very much for your assistance in working with Mattamy. We are pleased to advise this evening that Mattamy Homes withdrew their application this afternoon. We look forward to continuing to work with you, community neighbours and Mattamy commencing with a facilitated session early in September. Let’s Talk!

Jan Harder and Scott Moffatt”

Thank you to all that have taken the time to communicate their opposition to our elected representatives and participated at the meetings!

The possibility of future development of the Stonebridge golf course is still very real, and we must continue to prepare for talks with the City and Mattamy representatives in early September.

An application to develop or reconfigure the golf course could come again at any time, therefore let’s continue to work together so that we are even stronger, united, and exceptionally well prepared to take on the next challenge coming our way.

Our Connect the Community campaign continues thanks to our devoted canvassers. Please also watch for our community-wide survey in coming days, as it is needed to obtain valuable information to support our future efforts.

Stay tuned! Let's stand together to protect the future of Stonebridge!

UPDATE-SAVE STONEBRIDGE!

New Announcement: IMPORTANT NOTICE
The SCA received a communication from Councillor Harder she prepared for the Stonebridge community. Mattamy has agreed to set aside Ontario's Planning Rules with regards to the timing of this development, and has also agreed to engage a working group with Stonebridge residents.

Essentially, the application is on “hold” until the proposed talks. Talks will involve City Councillors, City Staff, Mattamy representatives and the Stonebridge working group in the late August, early September time frame.

The amount of work we have ahead of us to reach our entire community, organize volunteers and get to work preparing for discussion in late August, early September is substantial. This doesn't change the importance of the initiatives that are already underway, including the formation of community working groups to initiate the work ahead.

If you have questions, please contact development@stonebridgeca.com

Recent Cleanup at Orchard Park

Update
Over the past two months the SCA has worked with Forestry and Parks at the City of Ottawa to address longstanding maintenance issues at the Orchard Park.

In April the Orchard Park was assessed by a Forestry Inspector and over 30 trees were deemed hazardous and marked for removal. Trees have been removed from the stand of large poplars at the top of the hill, some of which had fallen during the recent windstorm, as well as as from the naturalized pathway. Heritage apple trees have been trimmed up to facilitate future maintenance and the brush underneath each is being cleared. All major debris has been removed from the park.

The wooden fence damaged by the fallen tree along Kilspindie has been reported to the City for repair.

Help us work with the City to keep the Orchard Park well-maintained, along with the other parks in the Stonebridge community, by calling in your concerns to 3-1-1 and letting us know at parks@stonebridgeca.com."

A few before/after photos would probably make a big impact, I can pass a few before photos if you think it's something we can support on the Facebook post.

Stonebridge Golf & Country Club is a gem in Barrhaven. Any additional development will diminish its shine.

Barrhaven, specially WARD3 is a fast growing community day by day, I strongly favour that there should be a balance among builders & residents needs.

Unfortunately we did not see and are not seeing this.

The very next week after submitting my nomination papers, visited with my children at CHEO BBQ event at Kilbirni Park. There I met with association members at their booth and came to know about the issue, right away I give my support to the association as I take it as a breach of contract.

I can say that I am the 1st who stood with you. Others, who did not even submitted nomination, jump into after the outcry.

For some reason, my message couldn't reach to the rest of community, I am sharing this here.

As city councillor candidate of ward3 my position to Mattamy Homes development is;

1- They should not go for this development as, it was their sale campaign to earn premiums on lots.

2- It is a breach of their contract if reasoning of lot premium is golf course.

3- Even if, it is inevitable for them, residents consensus should be mandatory.

4- If consensus develop among residents of Stonebridge community than, I will put this suggestion;

Mattamy return the lot premium or any other amount they charged in this regard plus %age increased value of the property,
for example; if property value increased by 10% they will return lot premium+10% of this premium.

Residents have a right to get the return on their Investment.

More over, they cannot go for any further development like this in this community.

I will always be here with my community.

Regards,

Atiq Qureshi

NOTE: How much good your neighbour is to you, it's you who know your home issues better. Ward3 is my home, I live in this ward, this is my issue.Though there is no legal binding but Jan Harder & Hadi Wess are not the residents of Ward3
