Greenbank Road Expansion
After three seasons of work trying to get the Greenbank Road expansion completed sooner rather than later, there is finally some information, and good news, to share with you. In January Council approved $5 million to complete a detailed design and property acquisition. This funding allowed the project to move forward with the detailed engineering work.
Here’s what the current project timeline looks like:
Now - Detailed scoping of the project is underway. The City recently completed the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process and the Request for Proposal (RFP) process will begin shortly. A geotechnical investigation is also currently underway to assess groundwater and soil conditions at the railway crossing (hopefully soil conditions are good and there won't be a need to construct an overpass so construction will finish at the earliest deadline).
2010/2011 - Design work
Late 2011 - Utility relocation work
Early 2012 - Construction starts
Late 2012 or 2013 - Construction complete.
There was hope that the completion would be faster but the challenge with the VIA tracks is significant and will take a great deal of negotiation. If you have any questions or concerns about this, or anything else, please contact Jan Harder at
