The Green Bin Program Starting in late 2009, over 240,000 homes in the City of Ottawa will begin to receive a new Green Bin. The Green Bin Program is part of the City of Ottawa’s long-term plan for solid waste management. Today, City recycling programs help to divert a third of all residential waste from landfill. The Green Bin Program will add organics to the list of recyclable materials, potentially doubling diversion rates. Organic materials collected by the City through the Green Bin Program will be sent to a state-of-the-art processing plant and converted into nutrient-rich compost ideal for agricultural use. By collecting organic waste in this way, residents can help the City of Ottawa feed the land and not the landfill. Read More... Recycling Every time you place materials in your black or blue box you accomplish at least three good deeds for the day. First, you are diverting waste from the landfill, and thus extending its life. Second, you are ensuring materials such as aluminium and paper that have many lives, can be used and reused to their fullest. And third, you are helping to save money. In the last eight years the sale of recyclable materials has provided close to $53 million in revenue to the City of Ottawa. Click on the links below to find out what can be recycled. |
