Road Detours
Taggart Construction will be starting construction along Greenbank Road, north of Cambrian Road to Half Moon Bay Road, in the coming weeks to install underground infrastructure down to Cambrian Road. Due to this construction, it will be necessary to close Greenbank Road between October 18, 2010 and the end of December 23, 2010.
GENIVAR has completed a detour plan for residents and area traffic to bypass the construction and limit the impact on commuters. The detours will be staged as follows:
Detour 1 (D-1) : Southbound traffic will be detoured at the Greenbank-Jockvale intersection to Jockvale Rd to Cambrian Rd and return to Greenbank Rd at the Greenbank-Cambrian intersection. Northbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse. This detour will operate throughout construction, starting October 18, 2010 and ending December 23, 2010.
Detour 2 (D-2) : Mattamy Residents will be allowed to access Greenbank Rd north of the construction, via Half Moon Bay Rd. This detour will operate along River Run Rd, Grand Canal St and Cambrian Rd. This detour will operate through construction, starting October 18, 2010 and ending December 23, 2010.
Detour 3 (D-3) : Tamarack Residents will use Jockvale Rd during the first phase of construction. Once construction has proceeded beyond Half Moon Bay Rd, the detour will take effect using Half Moon Bay Rd, Kilbernie Rd and Cambrian Rd. This detour starts on November 1, 2010, ending December 23, 2010.
OC Transpo will remain unchanged during construction and the school boards will advise residents should there be any changes in the routes pick-up or drop-off schedules.
Mayor’s Halloween Event!
On Saturday, October 30th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Mayor will host a Halloween event in support of the Ottawa Food Bank's Baby Supply Cupboard. The Baby Supply Cupboard targets the most vulnerable members of our society ~ infants and toddlers whose parents lack the resources to adequately provide for them. As a result of this program, expensive items such as formula, baby food and diapers are made available to assist families in need.
The evening starts at the Elgin Street entrance of the Heritage Building, where trick-or-treaters will walk through a spooky cemetery and make their way into the haunted house. From the Heritage Building, trick-or-treaters will be guided to Jean Pigott Place where they will be welcomed by the Mayor.
Snow removal equipment operators now in training
Ottawa – The leaves are still on the trees, the pavement is bare and the temperature is well above zero, so you might be surprised to see a snow plow on the road. But it’s all in the name of getting ready to clear the way for you this winter.
If you live or work in Orléans, rural Cumberland, Kanata, Stittsville or Bell’s Corners, from now till late November you might see the occasional snow plow / salt-and-sand truck on the road. The City of Ottawa is training operators to operate these large, complex machines on the local road network.
Winter operations training starts in the classroom, moves on to closed-course practice in City yards, and concludes with on-street practical training. All winter operations vehicles used for training will display Driver Training signs on the rear and both sides.
Snow Go and Snow Go Assist programs helps seniors and persons with disabilities keep walkways and driveways snow-free.
The City of Ottawa, in partnership with the Seniors Citizens Council and 9 local community support agencies, is once again providing the Snow Go Programs, which assist seniors and persons with disabilities with their snow removal needs.
Snow Go Program
The Snow Go program matches seniors and persons with disabilities with contractors and/or individuals who will clear snow from their private driveways and walkways.
All workers participating in the Snow Go Program are subject to a police record check conducted by Ottawa Police Services. A review of the service fees is also completed to ensure an appropriate cost range is charged to the client.
Once matched up with snow removal help, residents are responsible for paying the individual or contractor directly.
Snow Go Assist Program
The Snow Go Assist Program allows eligible low-income seniors and persons with disabilities to apply for financial assistance to pay for a portion of their snow removal costs. Approved participants may be reimbursed up to 50 per cent of their cost of snow clearing per event, to a seasonal maximum of $250. The community support agencies have the ability to limit the funds allocated to participants if the demand is high.
For more information about the Snow Go Program and the Snow Go Assist Program, including eligibility requirements and how to apply, contact one of the participating community support agencies listed online at ottawa.ca/snowgo, or call the City of Ottawa at 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401).
